Paris CDG terminals: the 2026 guide to 1, 2A–2G and 3

Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG / LFPG) has three terminals. Terminal 2 is not one building but seven halls, lettered 2A to 2G, spread over more than a kilometre.
The free CDGVAL automated shuttle links them every 4 minutes. Allow 90 minutes minimum for a connection between terminals — and up to three hours if you pass border control at a peak hour.
How CDG is laid out
Charles de Gaulle is not a single building with numbered gates. It is three terminals set apart from one another, and the middle one is itself divided into seven halls. Getting this wrong is the most common reason passengers miss a connection here.
Everything is linked by a free automated shuttle, the CDGVAL, plus two free bus lines. Nothing costs anything to move between terminals; what costs is time.
Terminal 1
The original terminal, circular in plan, served by the CDGVAL. Its shape means that walking distances inside are short, but reaching it from Terminal 2 always means taking the shuttle.
Terminal 2, hall by hall
Terminal 2 is the largest of the three and is divided into seven halls. They are not interchangeable: two halls with adjacent letters can still be a twenty-minute walk apart, and some transfers cross a border control point.
Terminal 2A
At the western end of Terminal 2, linked to 2B, 2C, 2D and 2F by the free N1 shuttle, which also serves the SNCF station and car park PW.
Terminal 2B
Adjoining 2A and served by the same N1 shuttle. Transfers from 2A or 2B towards 2E or 2F take 20 to 25 minutes, with passport control in between.
Terminal 2C
Paired with 2D, and on the N1 shuttle route.
Terminal 2D
Adjoining 2C, also on the N1 route towards the station and the western halls.
Terminal 2E
One of the two long-haul halls, and the one passengers most often need to find. Connected to 2F on foot airside through the connecting gallery, about 10 to 15 minutes. The N2 shuttle serves it landside between 09:30 and 23:00.
Terminal 2F
The other long-haul hall, linked to 2E through the same gallery and served by both the N1 and N2 shuttles.
Terminal 2G
A separate satellite building, reached by the N2 shuttle only, which runs every 5 minutes from 05:30 to 23:00. It is the hall most often underestimated: it is not walkable from the rest of Terminal 2.
Terminal 3
The smallest of the three, served by the CDGVAL, and used mainly by charter and low-cost operations.
The CDGVAL shuttle
An automated, driverless and free shuttle running every 4 minutes from 04:00 to 01:00. A bus replaces it between 01:00 and 04:00. It links Terminal 1, Terminal 3, all of the Terminal 2 halls, and car parks PR and PX.

The free N1 and N2 buses
N1 runs 24 hours a day and links 2A, 2B, 2C, 2D and 2F with the SNCF station and car park PW.
N2 runs every 5 minutes from 05:30 to 23:00 and links 2F, 2E — from 09:30 — and 2G.
How long a transfer really takes

The eight minutes advertised for the CDGVAL are time on board. They are not the transfer time. Walking to the platform, waiting, and walking out at the other end are what turn eight minutes into thirty.
Minimum connection time
Allow at least 90 minutes for any connection between terminals, and up to three hours if border control is involved. For non-EU passport holders, French border control can take 60 to 90 minutes at peak periods on its own.
This is the figure worth remembering: at CDG the risk is almost never the aircraft, it is the ground.

Being met on arrival
The terminal letter is the single piece of information that decides where a driver waits. A car sent to 2A for a passenger landing at 2G is a thirty-minute mistake, whatever the traffic on the way in.
